81 combinations started the dressage phase on the Thursday representing 10 countries with a record 24 riders being first timers.
In blustery conditions the 49th Burghley Horse Trials attracted a truly encouraging entry: 80 of the world’s best horses and riders, representing 12 nations from Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil and North America.
Despite 2008 being the wettest Burghley Horse Trials in living memory, the Autumn Classic of Eventing did not disappoint with the fans braving the elements and turning up in their tens of thousands to see a world class field.
