The spectacular setting of Pratoni Del Vivaro in the volcanic crater south of Rome was the setting for these championships and the result from 4 years previously at Punchestown, Ireland was repeated, with France's Nicholas Touzaint putting up a faultless performance on the brilliant grey Galan De Sauvagere to post a record low score in modern times, with Great Britain winning their 7th consecutive European title from the French team in second.
Like Punchestown this competition was won and lost on cross country day with Guiseppe Della Chiesa's course being demanding on stamina and clever in design - only Touzaint going clear inside the time.
