Training a foal is no child's play! It can be a fascinating experience, but it requires the correct mixture of experience, horse knowledge and intuitive feeling. Correct training follows from knowledge of how horses develop physically, mentally and behaviourally. A horse which has been treated incorrectly as a foal may never be reliable. It may be prone to suspicion and panic reactions throughout its entire life. A well-trained foal is much easier to back and its first hack will be a less risky undertaking.
