Details

Much more than an anatomy textbook, The Horse's Muscles in Motion is a unique guide to how and why the horse moves as he does: an essential aid for all who care about the horse's health and athletic performance. There are over 150 muscles in the horse's body, each with a role to play in how the horse moves.

Using her own careful anatomical drawings, Sara Wyche constructs a picture of the horse's musculoskeletal system. Each drawing is supported by explanatory text that describes how the various muscles work together with bones, joints, ligaments and nerves to produce movement. Throughout the book there are valuable insights into how man's use of the horse can adversely affect this movement, why the horse is sometimes unable to meet the strenuous demands that are so often placed upon him, and how good riding practice can help to avoid problems.

Riders, trainers, saddle fitters, in fact all who have an interest in the way the horse moves, will find this book to be a fascinating exploration of the horse's musculoskeletal system. More than this, it is an important guide to understanding exactly what it is they ask of the horse and, therefore, an aid to improving the horse's performance.

Sara Wyche is a qualified veterinary surgeon and a highly experienced practitioner of holistic medicine, as well as a horse owner and accomplished dressage rider. Her books have established her as one of the equestrian world's most distinguished authors.
