Description

Details

In this introductory DVD Minette will show you how to review the basic principles of successful riding. By showing how the rider's position affects the horse's balance, Minette deconstructs, simplifies and explains the art of riding. She uses her lifetime's experience to show how everyday riders with ordinary horses can dramatically improve their performance by more effective communication.

Chapters include:

Walk on the lunge.
The lunge lesson in walk addresses the essential elements of the position of the rider's seat and body, the alignment and awareness of the rider and the feel of the horse's movement.

Trot on the lunge.
This lesson in sitting trot takes you through a checklist to help you gain a balanced and comfortable seat. The search for balance in rising trot is carefully explained.

Bending the horse.
The mysteries of "bending the horse" are unravelled with clear explanations and demonstrations of how to achieve that bend correctly in both directions.

Transitions.
A series of examples showing the difficulties which can be incurred by "getting in the horse's way" during a transition are outlined. A correct example of each transition is also shown.

This DVD simplifies the art of riding and gives the viewer clear, concise explanations that are not only absorbing to follow but are also a delight to watch.

Minette Rice Edwards has spent the last thirty years teaching pupils and training horses for jumping and up to Grand Prix level dressage. She has taught visiting pupils from the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. Her aim in teaching is to help the rider to a clearer understanding of how to make optimum use of his own body and the effect this has on the horse. The more advanced this process becomes, the less effort is involved and the greater the freedom of movement for both horse and rider. Minette has studied extensively the Alexander Technique and trained under Sally Swift.
